How to prevent wasp nesting in your house

Albert Einstein once said “A clever person solves a problem. A wise person avoids it.” Here are some tips to prevent wasp invasion.

1. Seal Entry Points

Check your loft, attic and walls for small gaps and seal them up. Use insect mesh to cover air bricks and cable points to stop wasps invading your house.

2. Remove food sources

In spring and early summer, wasps are attracted to protein foods. Any food left outdoors, such as pet food, picnic scraps, open garbage containers or uncovered compost piles should be removed or covered.

3. Avoid Swatting

Wasps communicate through pheromone. When a wasp is squashed, a pheromone is released which attracts more wasps. It is best to walk away from a hovering wasp.

4. Avoid Wearing Bright Colours

If you look like a big flower, you may attract the curious wasps looking for nectar.

5. Natural options

Some essential oils and herbs deter wasps like peppermint, clover and lemongrass.
